something about wanting a swift kick in the...I mean a sidekick with unlimited calling. What is it with kids and phones? We didnt have them until our 20s, I dont see a need for them to have one now. They only get into trouble, and when I look at Boo's it's all calls and SMSs to girls...Caitlin tells me everyone has one, guess if everyone had a Glock she'd want one of those too. told her to start a new fad and be part of the group who doesn't have a phone...

Since we don't have a land line I gave Kade a prepaid phone for Christmas. It cost about $40 bucks for the phone and however many minutes you want to put on it. He is to use it only for emergencies and hasn't abused it fortunatly. Kyrie on the other hand has gone over her text limit and minutes each month and is going to get her phone taken away if it happens again. Just about every kid from kindergarten up has a phone here. It is insane. Jacob thinks he needs one now too. We didn't get Kyrie her regular plan phone until this year. In the past she had a prepaid that she had to earn the minutes for herself and when they were gone they were gone until she could pay for more. I don't think Caitlin needs one either.
We were just having this conversation at dinner on Saturday night. It is so sad. Kids don't even know how to communicate anymore. One of my friends teaches at the high school once a week and he said the kids don't even interact with each other because they are so busy texting each other. They have no sense of face to face conversation. And, like you said, they just get in trouble with it. There were a couple of 17 year old kids sending headless, nude photos of themselves through their phones are being charged with some misdemeanor. I wish there were a way to only let them call home and some emergency contact. I don't think Caitlin needs one. Definitelyh too young.
If my kid ever wants I phone this is what they are getting:The coolest phone on the planet. One phone to rule them all. Notice the lack of anything that can put you over your limits. One button to call the operator, one to call a responsible adult, and one to call 911. No text, no images, no internet, not sms, nothing. Tell Kyrie that if she goes over her minutes again this is the phone she will get. A phone is a privilege not a right. I'm sure Caitlin would love this phone.
Isn't this the old folks emergency phone....
I didn't know that phone existed, but that is right, the jitterbug phone. I didn't realize it only had those capabilities. That is exactly what you should get Caitlin
